Introduction to Roasting

“As a newbie to this, I found the roasting course to be an excellent introduction. It covered the basics very well, and I feel much more confidant moving forward with roasting.” -Howie Nelson, Cape May, NJ

“It was a great learning experience. Having one year of professional production roasting experience and many years of home roasting under my belt, there was plenty of content for me to absorb and found new pathways to take home with me and explore” - Craig Stonis, Out There Coffee

Intro to Roasting is a two day course designed to give new or prospective roasters the knowledge and skill to find success in the craft of coffee roasting. Topics covered include basic roasting techniques, roast levels, roast profiles, cupping, green coffee buying, building a roasting program, roastery design, and of course, fire safety. Students will have a chance to participate in hands-on roasting and cupping along with classroom instruction. After two days, students will walk away with newfound confidence and a wealth of information to bring back to their roasting businesses.

He set off the smoke alarm on his very first home roast, but was undeterred and eventually started roasting professionally in 2013. Thousands of batches later and his shop vac skills are really coming along! In 2017 he fulfilled a longtime goal of becoming a certified Q Grader.
